Visit Makarska Riviera for a perfect family vacation

Most travellers to Dalmatia head straight for the islands in pursuit of that summer joy and happiness. Little do they know that the Makarska Riviera, a 38-mile stretch of coastline between Split and Dubrovnik on the mainland, is a real haven, and home to some of the country’s most beautiful beaches.

The Riviera runs from Brela down to Baška Voda, Makarska, Tučepi and all the way to beautiful, sunny Podgora, which sits between the breathtaking Biokovo mountain and the vast blue sea. When you face the mountain, and feel its colossal appearance, the overwhelming feeling will make you appreciate the moment and focus on the things that really matter in life. You’ll feel alive.

There are around 50 flights a week arriving in the Dalmatian region over summer. You can fly from the UK, for example, to Split or Dubrovnik. From there, you can go wherever you want in search of the place that will make you and your family happy for the rest of the holiday.

Throughout summer, the Makarska Riviera is alive with al fresco restaurants and cafés filled with joyful people. Explore the daily open-air market stalls for fresh, seasonal produce, usually located in the shade behind small iconic churches and meaningful monuments. Join in one of the many fun family activities available, or set sail on a beautiful wooden boat for a day trip to one of the unique surrounding islands. The main draw, however, is time spent on the beaches. Follow the pine trees that form a fragrant, scenic backdrop to the glistening turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea, to our pick of the most beautiful beaches of the Makarska Riviera:

Vrulja - Brela Only half a mile long, but hiding more than 10 beautiful beaches each as nice as the other, this stretch of coastline lies to the west of Makarska. There's no shade, so take a beach umbrella, sunscreen and plenty of drinking water.

Drašnička Vrulja is located approximately 2 miles from the picturesque village of Drašnice. You’ll fall in love with the natural shade and fragrant pine trees instantly. Be sure to explore some of the many small bays dotted around.

Nugal Makarska beach is just 1.5 miles east of Makarska and is probably the most scenic beach on the Riviera. Easily accessible on foot, its highlight is a 10-metre high waterfall, which is just as alive during the winter as it is the summer.

Plišivac beach - Located north of the center, with every right the Plišivac beach is called the most beautiful beach in Podgora. Small marbles will, in touch with water, provide a feeling of the most beautiful feeling beneath your feet, so the sea entrance is the experience that you’ll never forget, you’re finally at rest, free of city crowds, meetings and masses – you’re in Podgora taking yourself and your mind on vacation. June, July and August in Podgora will provide the sense of haven and somewhat distanced from the city you wont have to search for a more secluded place in Makarska Riviera, because you’re already here. Just rest, close your eyes, dip in and enjoy, we’ll take care of the rest.

Croatia is the perfect place for you and your family to simply relax, enjoy and immerse yourself in everything we have to offer. With secluded, hidden and sometimes deserted islands, beautiful beaches, watersport hotspots and world-renown historic places, the Croatian coast is THE place for a perfect seaside break with your kids, friends and family.
